CURRENT GUR RUNS GUR stands for Greyhound Underground Railroad. It's a system of relaying dog from place to place and it's one way we get dogs from racetracks to adoptive homes in other states. When a GUR run is needed, a coordinator sets it up, mapping out possible routes and dividing the routes into "legs". Then, hopefully, people contact the coordinator and volunteer to take one or more legs. If the legs are filled, the run leaves on schedule. As the run progresses, the dogs are handed off from one driver to the next until they reach their destination. GUR volunteers are more valuable to Greyhound adoption that we could ever begin to put into words. Without them, hundreds of hounds wouldn't be in the homes they have today. But the volunteers love participating in these runs. They often get to meet other Greyhound folks that they might have "known" online for years but have never met in person. But the biggest reward is in time spent with a new dog, and the knowledge that they're helping another dog get home. What is needed to participate in a GUR run?
Because AHGA is located 3 miles from a track, we always have a steady supply of Greyhounds that need homes, so we sometimes send them to distant adopters or adoption groups. Whenever we have a GUR run in the works, it will be listed here. The dogs' names are the link to the run page.
