OTHER ADOPTION GROUPS

If you live within a reasonable distance of Charleston WV, of course we hope you will adopt a Greyhound from us. But you might find that a closer group is more convenient for you. Or you might live too far away to make adoption from us feasible. There are many adoption groups all over the country. Many are very good and some aren't so good. We have listed only those with whom we are familiar, or whose adopters we have talked to and believe are among the good ones according to our criteria (below). If a group close to you is not listed here, it does not necessarily mean we don't believe they are a good group. It might just be that we aren't familiar enough with them yet to recommend them. The groups below are some that we feel reasonably confident in recommending. Click on your state or try neighboring states to find the group closest to you.

• We must either know at least some of the people involved with the group or have heard very positive reports from adopters and/or dog owners who have given their dogs to these groups for adoption.
• We must believe that the group makes every effort to be as honest and straightforward as possible with their adopters about the dog's background.
• We must believe that the group makes every effort to screen adoption applicants properly, give them proper preparation for Greyhound ownership, and continuing support after adoption.
• The group's website must contain no anti-racing material.  
• The group must never discourage adopters from obtaining blue pet slips, contacting owners and/or transferring ownership except in the rare cases in which there is a very good reason not to.
